Cultural organisation Mitali will observe the 84th birth anniversary of legendary Tagore singer/ exponent Kanika Bandopadhyay on October 12 at Mohar Kunja in Kolkata. The programme will be organised in association with Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Metro Railway and Mohar Kunja Parichalan Samity, says a press release.
Kanika Bandopadhyay, affectionately known as ‘Mohardi’ to disciples, became a legend for her melodic voice and graceful renditions of Rabindra Sangeet. Her earnest desire to strengthen the cultural ties between India and Bangladesh led to the establishment of Mitali — an Indo-Bangladesh cultural society — in 1991. Kanika remained its chief advisor until her death in 2000.
