Last Saturday, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre of Indian High Commission, Dhaka arranged a musical programme featuring Tagore singers Lily Islam and Chanchal Khan.
The duo presented Rabindra Sangeet, and songs of Atul Prasad and D.L. Roy; narrated the backgrounds of the songs and demonstrated the many variations of tunes, lyrics and compositions. The repertoire included both popular and lesser-known songs from Tagore’s nature, love and folk-inspired compositions as well as “Bhanusingher Padabali”. Chanchal and Lily also rendered songs (bhanga gaan), which were adapted by Tagore from Indian classical and Western tunes. It was an entertaining and interactive session.
